Thumbnail Image of Download 1918 Westinghouse Range Owners Manual
This is the oldest owners manual for any major appliance we have found up to this point. Westinghouse very first range was in 1914, so this is very early in the line. I can only imagine what housewives had to cook on before this range. This is a fascinating look at early range history. Even the writing style is completely different than what you'd see today by far!

Most women would like to cook if it did not require standing
over a hot stove. Planning a meal is not hard and mixing
various ingredients into the promise of delicious dainties or
preparing a roast for the oven is rather fun . But to be held
in the kitchen or even in the house during the long hours of
watchfulness is a different matter. And it is right here that
the Westinghouse electric range steps in and lifts the burden.

When the food has been prepared it may be trusted to
this silent servant with perfect confidence. There is no possibility
of instructions being forgotten or misunderstood . At
a given time, (the time decided upon,) the clock will turn on
the current and the meal will begin to cook. Again when just
the correct temperature has been reached in the oven, the thermostat
will turn the current off again and when madam enters
the kitchen after an afternoon of leisure or pleasure the meal
is ready to serve.

She herself is prepared to enjoy the meal equally as well
as any member of the family , because she has not had to think
about it since early morning.

Because the Westinghouse range reduces the labors of cooking
to the minimum, requiring no watching nor constant regulation
of heat, because it produces better food , and because
it is more economical, it will be in the kitchen of every modern .
progressive woman who is anxious to keep her family happy
and in good health. and yet does not wish to become a fixture
in the kitchen with its consequent limitations.

Thumbnail Image of Download 1959 Frigidaire Refrigerator-Freezer Tech-Talk Service Manual
Here is the comprehensive service manual to all 1959 Frigidaire Refrigerators. This is the year Frigidaire introduced fully frost-free models.

Models included:
SA-9-59, SS-9-59, S-9-59, D-11-59, D-13-59, FD-1 04-59, FI-123-59, FI-122-59, CP-144-59, FP-124-59 and FP-142-59.

"THE WONDERFUL 1959 FRIGIDAIRE REFRIGERATORS

Now with the advent of the wonderful new Frigidaire Frost-Proof Refrigerator-Freezer, a woman's life becomes easier than ever. For the first time she will have no frost to contend with. We hope you all have inspected a Frost-Proof that has been operating during the hot summer months and have seen how free of frost the packages and ice cube trays remain. You have only to see other refrigerators that depend upon push buttons for defrosting- to appreciate how much the absence of any frost means to the homemaker.

In the Frost-Proof:

• All of her frozen packages stay clean and free of frost.
• Labels on the frozen food packages are always clear and legible.
• All space is usable- none taken up by the frost.
• Freezer baskets always roll in and out easily-no tugging to release frosted guides.
• Ice cubes remain free of frost whether in ice trays or in the Ice Server.
• Ice Cream stays free of frost on the surface of the un-used portion- yes, even if Junior leaves the lid ajar.
• Counter-tops and tables stay dry and clean of frost marks or puddles of melted ice formerly left from grids or ice trays or frosty packages.

But the advantage the homemaker appreciates most is the freedom from the messy job of defrosting! Remember that some of the women you talk to may never have experienced the messy job of defrosting a true food freezer-refrigerator. But every woman will have at least some experience with some kind of defrosting."

Thumbnail Image of Download 1958-1959 Westinghouse Built-in Cooktop and Oven Owners Manual
Here are the owners manuals to the 1958 and 1959 line of Westinghouse Built-in Ranges (Cooktops and Ovens).

Models include:
Cooktops: PJ-66, PJ-68,
Built-in Ovens: OL-17, OL24, OLR-17, OLR-24

With your Westinghouse Built-in Range you'll
enjoy a new degree of cooking convenience.
You'll be delighted at the way your favorite
recipes turn out-and you'll be equally pleased
with the wonderful way your new oven and
surface units take the work out of cooking.

There are two styles of Westinghouse built-in
ovens, as well as three different surface cooking
units. This booklet illustrates all styles
and gives detailed instructions on how to use
and care for them.

So, we suggest that you read this book carefully
and familiarize yourself with the features
of your oven and your surface unit. Then
you'll know how to make the best use of them.

As you may notice in the illustrations, the
main difference in Westinghouse built-in ovens
is the size. Westinghouse surface cooking platforms
were designed for versatility-one platform
has four Corox surface units, while each
of the others has two surface units and separate
remote control panel.

But, regardless of which oven or which style
surface units you are using, you'll get best
results every time, if you follow the directions
given for their use. And you can be certain
they'll serve you a long, long time, if you care
for them as suggested in this booklet.

Strictly Experimental is this combination freezer-electronic range which General Electric demonstrated lost month. Housewife simply makes menu selection by pushing up to six of the 14 selector keys at top of unit. Dishes are then automatically conveyed to electronic oven at proper intervals so that completed meal comes out at one time. The freezer racks con be loaded with either pre-frozen commercial foods or home-prep a red meals . G-E officials emphasize that unit is nothing more than logical development of existing appliances and "does no take the place of a good cook." Instead, the XP C-1 allows housewife to prepare meals in advance and frees her from work while meal is being cooked.

Thumbnail Image of Download Hoover Concept One and Concept Two Vacuum Cleaner Service Instructions
These service instructions take you through complete disassembly of the cleaner, including the motor for both power drive and non-power drive models. If you are looking to keep your Concept in top-shape, or specifically fix something that's broken, these are a must! While not as easy to service as a basic Convertible; the Concept really isn't too bad to work on, these instructions will surely help the novice.

Aligning with its 70th anniversary, in 1978 Hoover introduced the Concept One into their product-line, replacing the 15-year old Dial-A-Matic as the new 'A-Line' of cleaners. Hoover went back to the dirty-air design, and built, arguably, one of the best carpet-cleaning vacuum cleaners ever made. The Concept one came in both self-propelled and non-self propelled models. The Quadraflex Agitator was introduced with the Concept, and the cord-winder came back to an upright after a brief appearance on a Convertible in the early 70s. A few years later, Hoover added a 'Dustbuster' type vacuum to the front of Concept, and the Concept Two was born; also in self-propelled and non-self propelled models. The Concept had a run of about 16 years, give or take - ending as the 'PowerMax' (PowerMax service instructions are not specifically included within these particular service instructions, but the PowerMax is very similar to the Concept in most ways).

Here is the complete owners manual to Sears Kenmore's second generation of automatic washers which were produced by Whirlpool. The manual covers both models available from 1950 through 1952, the "Deluxe" model and the "Standard" model.

The Deluxe model was Kenmore's first automatic washer with a suspension system which means no bolting down was necessary and had a suds-saver system. The Standard model was similar to Kenmore's original 1947 bolt-down style washer, but with the suds-saver system removed and bolting down was required.

Thumbnail Image of Download How to Repair Appliances
Here is a wonderful book full of pictures and information of vintage washing machines and other vintage 1950's major and small appliances.

This is the most complete book on appliance repair ever prepared for the home handyman. Automatic Washers, Dryers, Refrigerators, Vacuum Cleaners, Fans, Mixers, Toasters as well as special chapters are devoted to the proper use and repair of freezers, air conditioners, rotary ironers, waffle irons, grills and heating units.

Before plunging into the repair of specific items, the author introduces the reader to the sources of power—electricity-—then covers the manner in which this power is transported to the home in a chapter on House Wiring. Safety measures, too, are outlined and the reader is cautioned on how to protect himself and his family both in the repair and use of these handy—but sometimes dangerous—electric assistants.
Since the most used home appliance is the modern washing machine, a greater coverage is offered, with special field reports by a group of well known writers and photographers. Profusely illustrated with photos, diagrams and charts, the section covers trouble shooting for all makes of washers— with specific information on:
Bendix
Whirlpool-Kenmore
Westinghouse
General Electric
Maytag
Frigidaire
Speed Queen
Norge
ABC-O-Matic
Easy

Finally—The Ways and Means of Appliance Repair—and a complete coverage on Electric Motors used in Home Appliances— provides the harassed home handyman with the kind of money-saving information he needs to keep his push-button paradise in perfect (and economical) running order.

Thumbnail Image of Download Select Consumer Bulletin Articles - August 1961
Consumer Bulletin magazine was a product rating company that was started in 1928. The following artciles have been published in this download:

#1 Rating of Combination Washer/Dryers. Review of Easy Combomatics, General Electric, Kenmore, Norge Dispensomat, Philco-Bendix Duomatic, RCA Whirlpool Ultimatics, Wards Signature, Speed Queen and Westinghouse brand combos.

#2 Coin-Operated Dry Cleaners in Laundromats. ANYONE who regularly takes clothing or other articles to the dry cleaner knows that the expenditure for cleaning of this kind accounts for a sizable proportion of the household budget. It does not take many items to run up a bill of $5 to $10 for each lot of clothing, blankets, and other cleanable articles. Most families don't have everything cleaned they would like to or as often as they would like to. Many will thus welcome a new dry-cleaning service which gives special economy through self-service features, a type of installation also known as "coin-op" or self-service dry cleaning

#3 Review of the Corning Ware Electric Coffee Pot

#4 New Controls on Cooking Appliances
There are probably millions of oven clock-timers on both electric and gas ranges which are unused solely because they are too complicated to be set correctly by persons who do not use them regularly, and are unwilling to master the relationships of a complex set of dials, knobs, and pointers. Fortunately, some of the manufacturers have now done something about this situation.
